Anoka-Hennepin outlines facility upgrades: classroom cooling, safety systems and enrollment center

Greg Cole, the district's chief operations officer, told the board on March 9 that multiple facilities projects will finish this summer, including final phases of classroom cooling and dehumidification at several elementary schools, the completion of Dayton's interior remodel and a district enrollment center targeted for August.
Cole described safety and security upgrades already underway: standardized electronic door lock systems and district-issued badge FOBs for staff, a forthcoming mobile-device communications pilot, and a federally funded grant to complete emergency operations work this summer. He also outlined child-nutrition kitchen upgrades, pavement and parking-lot repairs, elevator and pool mechanical improvements, and long-term capital priorities such as roofs and building envelopes.
Cole said the district will continue to evaluate technology for weapons-detection and other safety pilots and will use a refreshed process to engage school leaders on facility priorities and how building-level funds should be planned and used. He emphasized that most capital projects use multiple funding sources and that the district views major additions as long-term decisions requiring careful vetting.
The board did not vote on any capital items at the work session; Cole said staff will return with additional LTFM (long-term facility management) planning and prioritized recommendations later this year.
