After discussion of budgeted needs and a separate Stonegarden grant that could fund an additional larger SUV, the commissioners accepted the sheriff’s recommendation to award three Dodge Durango bids (for two unmarked and one marked patrol unit) and a Ford Police Interceptor as a front‑line marked unit. The votes were recorded as carried by the board.
Separately, commissioners granted a conditional approval to purchase a 2026 Chevy Tahoe from a local dealer if a pending grant reallocation (moving grant funds from personnel to equipment) is approved. The sheriff said the Tahoe would be used to transport equipment such as drones and infrared gear for Operation Stonegarden and patrol supervisors; the conditional buy awaits final grant FRAGO approval, which staff expected to resolve within roughly two weeks.
The board also accepted, with regret, the retirement letter of Chief Deputy Rand Maker effective March 30 after about 30 years of service. The sheriff spoke in tribute and commissioners approved the retirement by vote.
Commissioners asked staff to coordinate vehicle outfitting, monitor equipment transfer issues between make/models, and report back on grant approval for the conditional Tahoe purchase.
