Alexander City Council on Feb. 2 approved a resolution authorizing the city to execute an agreement with an engineering and environmental/forestry services firm to carry out a multi‑year, grant‑funded sidewalk project intended to extend pedestrian connections toward downtown.
Council Young, who moved to approve the resolution, said the county commissioner is contributing $30,000 toward the grant and that the project will begin at Central Boulevard and proceed down Joseph Street with the goal of improving pedestrian access to downtown. The motion passed by voice vote.
The council also voted unanimously to waive a $500 park rental fee for an event scheduled May 16, 2026, at Strand Park. Council members discussed how event staffing and police coverage are determined by expected attendance and confirmed that event organizers pay required off‑duty officer costs when applicable.
Separately, Council Lucas reported the mayor recently signed a contract with Tyler Construction to install a sewer line on Flint Hill Place for a new development; the amount reported for that contract was $15,450.
The council approved routine minutes, amended the agenda to add Jason Moran of EMA and conducted other standard business before adjourning. No public hearings were held and no formal oppositions to the two votes were recorded.
