Police leadership told the council the department has hired 11 employees since June 2023 but has seen recent resignations; one officer left for another local agency offering higher pay, the chief said. "If you're looking to be that person ... to make a difference in your community, I encourage you to apply," the chief said, summarizing minimum requirements: age 21, a high-school diploma or GED, a background investigation meeting APOST standards, and passing physical and psychological exams. Certified applicants will have an easier application path but uncertified candidates are welcome.
