Sheriff says internal complaint under investigation; civilian interviews pending

Clinton County’s sheriff reported to commissioners on March 3 that an internal complaint referred to county investigators and the merit board is under active investigation.
The sheriff said investigators are interviewing people and that civilians connected to the matter will also be interviewed, but he could not confirm how many civilians would be included or identify them. “It’s been turned to the investigators ... the civilians will be interviewed as we get to each person,” the sheriff said.
The sheriff also provided updates on hiring and vehicle availability, noting three merit positions are moving toward medical clearance and one patrol vehicle is being repaired after a collision with a deer.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; the sheriff told the board he would provide investigative materials to HR or the board as required by county policy when appropriate.
