During the public-comment period at the Jan. 28 council meeting, a resident who identified himself as "Mr. Roarball" (gave an address) urged civil, nonpartisan discourse, expressed concern about anonymous social-media posts, and encouraged transparency about the mine-mapping work tied to the recently awarded Amler grant. He previewed America 250 plans — including a drone show as an alternative to fireworks — and asked for volunteers and sponsorships to support the celebration.
Council members and staff used department reports to thank public works, police, fire and other city employees for storm response and continuous operations during recent extreme weather. Administration and service leaders said more than 30 employees from parks, water, streets and sewer worked extended hours to clear roads, restore water service after a water-main break and dig hydrants free. Several council members relayed constituent praise for the crews.
Administration staff outlined logistics for America 250 and said the city has produced merchandise and is seeking sponsorships. Staff named the committee lead and said social-media and event coordination are being handled by a newly hired staff member, Trisha Stag. The administration also announced a new administrative assistant, Kyra Baker, starting Feb. 9.
Council members encouraged residents to sign up for automatic utility payments and noted ongoing recruitment for several municipal positions including code enforcement and public safety roles. A member also proposed quarterly ward meetings for constituent engagement.
What happened next: Council appointed two representatives to the CRA Housing Council, accepted public comment, and moved on to executive session items later in the evening.
