Baker County commissioners voted to update rental rates for the A Center (the county's auditorium facility) and to standardize cleaning and no‑show policies.
Staff presented two rate options: one that listed a separate cleaning fee and a second that included cleaning in an adjusted rental rate. After discussion about waivers for nonprofits, custodial costs and market comparisons, commissioners settled on the alternative that includes a $100 cleaning allowance in the rental fee.
The board adopted the following rates by motion and voice vote: a nonprofit/non‑taxable event rental rate set at $200 (including cleaning), private events at $500, commercial events at $600; a refundable security deposit of $300; and a $50 no‑show fee for renters who fail to meet county check‑in/check‑out protocol. Staff clarified that rental fees are prepaid and that a forfeited rental fee applies if an organization does not show for a reserved event.
Sarah, the staff member handling facility rentals, explained the no‑show fee exists because county staff must meet renters for check‑in and check‑out and because cleaning and inspection must be completed. The board also agreed that fee waivers for nonprofits would still require payment of any cleaning or other direct costs.
The board left Sanderson Community Center rates for discussion at the next meeting once staff and the contractor report back on progress.
