Aaron Millis, president of the Friends of the Library, told the board the group's April 2 book sale "raised about approximately $1,500," and added the result was in line with typical April sales that can be lower than winter events. He said the sale produced 26 new memberships, including student-level memberships and the group's youngest member (about seven years old).
Millis described a pricing error in which several children's board books were given away when the Friends had intended a buy-one-get-one-free promotion; he said the group will accept the mistake and move forward. He also announced the Friends' annual meeting, scheduled for the evening of April 21 at the library, which will include presentation of volunteer awards and a dedication to commemorate the Audrey T. Dearing Wing; the signage and plaque for the naming were already installed.
The Friends also discussed a local Girl Scout's Gold Award project to create STEM kits tied to QR-code videos for library programs; the Friends agreed to support the project at a level greater than the scout requested. Millis said the group increased the allocation for teen awards this year to $750 (from $500) and plans to continue supporting teen volunteer recognition and scholarship activity.
Ending: The board thanked Millis for the report. The Friends will hold their annual meeting April 21, and library board members are invited to attend.
