During the board’s public-comment period, parents and community members urged greater transparency in district leadership and questioned prior decisions they say affected trust.
Megan Cananan, a parent, told the board that when she and others raise concerns about leadership or disciplinary matters they are sometimes dismissed and that the district culture has left staff and families feeling vulnerable. "When staff feels vulnerable, unsupported, or fear of retaliation, that impacts the entire school community," she said, urging accountability and due process.
Ashley Wright read an excerpt of an email she said came from Dr. Court Monroe in January 2024 expressing concern about budget pressure, declining enrollment and a possible electric-bus purchase that she said could cost up to $1.5 million, and asked why parents had not been informed and whether the district had the infrastructure funds for electric buses.
Coach Wumpampu Candeleria asked the board to consider purchasing a field-maintenance machine used elsewhere to make athletic fields playable for home games and requested an update on a flag-football survey. Resident Suzanne Wald criticized the decision to hold finalist interviews closed to the public and asked the board to prioritize a superintendent hire that can quickly restore community trust.
Board members directed administration to follow up on the pest-control machine, the flag-football survey, and to provide requested information to the board.
