Union County adopts parks-and-recreation fee schedule ordinance

The Union County Board of County Commissioners on a unanimous vote adopted Ordinance 864-2026, establishing a fee schedule to reimburse the county when municipalities use county parks equipment and facilities.
The ordinance, read by the clerk and moved for final reading by Vice Chair Williams, clarifies which costs municipalities will be charged when they use county resources. "These are fees for reimbursement to the county from municipalities using our equipment, mainly from the parks department," County Counsel Bergen told the board during a short public comment period.
Bruce Patterson of Garwood, who spoke during the restricted public-comment period for the ordinance, asked commissioners to explain which fees and facilities the ordinance would affect. Council Bergen answered that the ordinance sets out a fee schedule so municipalities "are aware upfront what their cost will be." Patterson also asked about several other resolutions on the agenda; county staff addressed those separately after the public comment period.
The clerk conducted a roll call on final adoption; Commissioners Baker, Dellesport, Leon, Neon, Pomeary Muded, Signarello, Vice Chair Williams and Chairman Bodc all recorded affirmative votes. The ordinance will be advertised and implemented according to state law.
The vote followed routine procedural approvals of communications and previous meeting minutes at the start of the session. The county also introduced Ordinance 865-2026 at the meeting for first reading, which would add fees to offset costs of electronic receipt transactions and will return for a later hearing and vote.
What happens next: Ordinance 864-2026 will be published in accordance with the clerk's advertising authorization; Ordinance 865-2026 was given first reading and will be advertised for a future final vote.
