Weld County to seek $5 million in congressional funds for County Roads 13 and 50 realignment and roundabout

Weld County commissioners authorized Public Works on March 23 to submit a FY2027 congressionally directed spending request for $5 million to support a realignment and construction of a roundabout at the intersection of County Roads 13 and 50.
Evan Pinkham of the Department of Public Works said the county has been coordinating the project with the town of Johnstown and Larimer County and that the requested funding would help assemble financing to "make us whole" for the full project scope. "What we're looking to submit for a request is $5 million for this project," Pinkham said.
The board also approved several related transportation items during the meeting, including reimbursement agreements with Union Pacific Railroad for preliminary engineering on County Road 66 (contract ID 10453) and County Road 54 (contract ID 10461), and authorization to accept a purchase-of-property-interest agreement (contract ID 10490) to acquire permanent and temporary right-of-way for County Road 29 improvements. Public Works described the right-of-way acquisition as 1,597 square feet of permanent right-of-way and 300 square feet of temporary construction easement with a negotiated payment of $5,000; the board approved the conveyance.
Separately, the board approved a temporary closure of East 18th Street between Old Highway 34 and Fern Avenue from April 1 through May 12 for mill-and-overlay paving; Public Works said local access will be maintained and message boards will be placed in advance of the closure.
