Dara Manning presented an addendum to extend a Best Friends medical grant intended to cover veterinary care for sick animals. Manning told the commission the original $12,500 grant had only spent about $2,780 as of Sept. 30, leaving roughly $9,720 available; Best Friends agreed to extend the grant period by one year to Sept. 30, 2026, to allow the funds to be used when parvo puppies or other medical needs reappear.
Manning described recent successful treatments — including a parvo-positive puppy that recovered and a severely injured kitten whose tail was later amputated — as evidence the funding helps save animals that require veterinary care. Commissioners asked whether the extension would affect eligibility for other Best Friends grants; Manning said it would not prevent future applications for different grants.
The commission moved, seconded and approved the grant addendum.
