Ceres certifies Nov. 5 election and swears in mayor, council member and treasurer

The Ceres City Council certified the consolidated results of the Nov. 5, 2024 municipal election and administered oaths to newly elected officials during its Dec. 9 meeting.
The city clerk read the certificate of canvas into the official record and declared the results: Javier Lopez received 6,195 votes and was declared elected mayor; Serena Otero was declared elected to Council District 3 with 2,236 votes; Daniel A. Martinez was declared elected to Council District 4 with 2,377 votes; and Kayla Martinez was declared elected city treasurer with 11,615 votes. The clerk said precinct-level vote details are attached to the resolution in the agenda packet.
A council member moved to approve certification and the motion passed on a 5-0 roll-call vote. The council then invited the newly elected officials to the dais and administered the oath of office. Serena Otero, Daniel A. Martinez and Kayla Martinez each repeated the oath and briefly addressed the council and audience.
Serena Otero thanked residents and staff after being sworn in, saying she looked forward to serving and working with the council and city staff. Newly sworn officials gave short remarks of appreciation before the meeting took a brief intermission for photos.
The certification and swearing-in complete the city's formal post-election steps; the clerk entered the results into the official record and the council will proceed with its regular duties with the newly seated members.
