County awards $2.71 million bid for HSIP road safety package; project fully funded by WSDOT program

Thurston County Public Works reported on March 10 that the low responsive bid for the 2024 Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) county road safety and countywide electrical services projects was submitted by Masonic Construction of Gig Harbor at approximately $2.71 million.
County Engineer Matt Osman said the consolidated project was jointly bid to improve pricing and reduce construction-management costs. The work will use the county's local road safety plan to target countermeasures at higher-risk corridors and includes guardrail installation, slope flattening, removal of trees from clear zones, new street lighting, lane narrowing and construction of a midblock crossing on Yelm Highway near the Shahalis Western Trail.
Osman said the project is 100% funded and requires no local match. Commissioners did not act on the contract at the work session; staff said the bid results and award recommendation will appear on the formal agenda for final action.
