One commissioner noted the contractor “is not local” and asked staff to return for an administrative or work session to consider budgeting for change orders and inspection costs. Wells said staff could place the item on an upcoming administrative meeting for further planning.
The board approved the motion by voice vote; all three commissioners signaled in favor.
The contract award fulfills the board’s previously stated administrative decision to proceed with the project to support fairgrounds long-term operations and future community-focused development. Staff said the work follows the county’s invitation to bid and prior administrative approvals recorded in earlier meetings.
The county did not identify a mover or seconder for the motion in the minutes. The board did not set a contingency amount at the March 3 vote; commissioners asked staff to bring back options to cover change orders and inspection oversight.
Next steps: county staff will execute the contract with Northwest Construction and schedule a follow-up administrative discussion on potential contingency and inspection resources.
