Craven County’s board on Monday approved a series of actions to move multiple surplus properties back onto the tax rolls, authorizing upset-bid processes for some parcels and final conveyances for others after the upset-bid period expired.
County Attorney Mr. Grady outlined six parcels — all located within the city of New Bern — providing parcel ID numbers, current offer amounts and the combined past-due taxes and foreclosure costs for each. For offers that were initial steps in the upset-bid process the board authorized starting that process; for parcels that completed the upset-bid window the board adopted resolutions approving conveyance to the buyer at the final purchase price.
Commissioners asked about the high foreclosure and demolition-related costs shown on some files; Mr. Grady explained the city of New Bern sometimes performs demolition/abatement and those expenses appear on the tax rolls. Proceeds from sales are split prorata between the county and the city based on the share of past-due taxes and costs assessed.
What the board approved: motions recorded to authorize upset bids for parcels (including 927 Samson Street and 1427 Lincoln Street) and to approve final conveyances for parcels where no upset bids were received (for example 1016 Main Street, 1039 Main Street, 1041 Main Street and 2204 Hartford Avenue). The board voted by roll call on each item.
At the meeting: Mr. Grady presented the items; roll-call votes were recorded in favor by the full board.
