District reviews college-and-career readiness plan, sets FAFSA and rubric improvement targets

District staff reviewed the Nevada R-V college-and-career readiness plan and outlined short- and long-term goals for increasing career exploration and FAFSA completion.
"We had an action step to have monthly FAFSA reminders. Communication was sent out. The reminders were sent out, but I'we didn't do it monthly. It was more quarterly," the presenter said, and said the action remains "progressing" for next school year. The presenter later set a target of 60% FAFSA completion for the coming year and said current reporting compares this year's standing to last year's (a net +8 percentage-point change).
The board also discussed the district'level career curriculum: staff described a transition from MAP (Iowa State) to Zello for career lessons, and noted the Zello contract ends in two to three years. Staff said the state Department of Education may recommend a single platform ("School Links") in the future, which would simplify rubric scoring across districts.
On monitoring, staff said many checkpoints will be qualitative: teacher and team reflections on Zello lessons in seminar and Cub Pride groups, plus completion counts for FAFSA and IAP submissions. Staff confirmed Zello includes level-two accessibility features and meets the district's ADA checkpoint so it can read lessons aloud for students who need that support.
The presenter also described middle-school grade-by-grade scaffolding goals (progressing students from career awareness in fifth grade to early career planning by seventh grade), and said the district'internal review (which will inform the external review) will focus on career-connected learning and middle-school components.
Next steps: staff will add missing Zello lessons to the plan before submission prior to spring break, check recording/streaming options for family presentations, and continue work to increase FAFSA completion.
