Elmore County honors CERT graduates and a slate of state wrestling champions

Elmore County Commission recognized nine Community Emergency Response Team graduates and read resolutions honoring a series of state wrestling champions at its March 10, 2025 meeting.
Keith Barnett, Elmore County Emergency Management Agency director, introduced the CERT class and credited program coordinator Bethany Elliott and assistant Greg Ward for organizing the course. Barnett said the class began with 19 sign-ups and nine completed the training, which included weeknight instruction and a full-day simulated exercise. He noted the program used a Homeland Security grant this year to pay for response backpacks and that some extra kits will be kept on hand for future trainings.
"This class did great," Barnett said, noting the program’s role in building a team ready to assist during county events and emergencies. Elliott was singled out for coordinating speakers, schedules and logistics.
The commission read and approved resolutions honoring individual student athletes and teams, naming Dominic Sager (class 6A, 285-pound champion), Juliana Eldridge (girls 114-pound champion), Tyler Payton (class 5A, 157-pound champion) and multiple other state champions from county high schools. Coaches and athletes joined commissioners at the front for resolution presentations and photos; coaches described season records, state dual championships and four seniors who signed collegiate wrestling scholarships.
Coach Mask, addressing the commission, described a season that included wins across classifications and credited athletes, coaches and parents for the county’s strong wrestling showing. "All the credit goes to these guys — they really put in the work," the coach said, summarizing the program’s discipline and results.
Commissioners offered brief congratulatory remarks, praising athletes’ hard work and the support of coaches and families. The presentations were followed by applause and photos at the administrative complex.
The commission approved each resolution by motion, and the recognition items were recorded as approved during the business meeting portion of the agenda.
