Cary council proclaims Cybersecurity Month and Diwali, recognizes band day and shares early‑voting details

At its Oct. 23 meeting, the Cary Town Council issued several community recognitions and routine announcements.
Council Member Bush read a Cybersecurity Awareness Month proclamation, urging residents to practice strong passwords, enable multi‑factor authentication and report phishing. “Cyber security is absolutely a shared responsibility,” Bush said as part of a longer proclamation that cited a recent scam example and directed residents to staysafeonline.org for guidance.
Councilmember Surika Bansal read a Diwali proclamation recognizing the festival’s cultural and charitable role in Cary and invited representatives of the SV Temple to the podium. The council also proclaimed Nov. 1, 2025 as Cary Band Day; drum majors Bonnie Smith and Claire Wilson accepted and described the band’s 2025 show, recent awards and the program’s fundraising needs.
Town Manager Steagle told residents that early voting for Cary and nearby races begins Oct. 25, listing the Herb Young Community Center and other local sites and directing residents to the town elections webpage for full schedules and polling locations.
The council recognized Girl Scout Troop 789 and closed the ceremonial portion of its agenda before proceeding to public hearings and business items.
