The Mount Clemens City Commission authorized city administration to purchase a tax-reverted parcel at 12 Murdoch Place for approximately $3,428 to complete the Clemens Park project.
City staff described the parcel as the final property needed to provide the ‘‘whole’’ park space and said the purchase would be finalized after the county executes the deed. The city attorney will review title work and paperwork prior to finalizing the transaction; staff said the county does not provide title work and that the deed will be executed once payment is made.
Commissioners discussed how acquiring the parcel will give the city more leverage for future redevelopment or recreational use; staff noted the property was acquired originally with neighborhood stabilization (federal) funds and demolition of structures had been part of earlier efforts to assemble parkland.
The motion to authorize the purchase passed by roll call. Staff said closing could occur as soon as the check is cut.
