David Goldberg, chair of the Oregon City Public Library Advisory Board, and Greg Williams, library director, reported that the library welcomed about 154,000 in‑person visits last year, increased registered cardholders by 16% and grew program offerings by 25%.
The board said it is expanding outreach with book lockers and a planned mobile library vehicle to serve the library's 100‑square‑mile service district and address return‑and‑access challenges for patrons. The commission recognized representatives from the Oregon City Library Foundation and the Friends of the Oregon City Public Library, who presented two matching gifts of $75,000 each (total $150,000) to support the 'Beyond the Walls' campaign. The funds will support the outreach vehicle purchase and related outreach activities.
Goldberg also warned that Clackamas County library funding levels remain uneven under the current funding formula and recommended a future county ballot measure to increase library revenues; he and staff said the library will follow up with county representatives about task‑force recommendations.
What happens next: the library will accept the gifts, proceed with the outreach vehicle purchase under the previously authorized contract, and work with foundation and friends groups on deployment plans and book‑locker locations.
