Shannon said the MMA grant provides $4,300 toward an internship typically paid at about $17 per hour; the draft plan anticipates a 12‑week placement (four days per week, eight hours per day) running late May through mid‑August, with a total estimated program cost of approximately $6,828 after administrative fees. If the grant is awarded, Shannon said the town would cover the remaining estimated $2,528 from surplus in the general administration budget.
The internship scope described includes scanning and organizing annual reports and minutes, updating a roads inventory, reviewing past contracts to capture years, costs and useful life of road work, proposing a five‑year roads maintenance plan, and assisting with the comprehensive plan’s infrastructure chapter. Shannon said the MMA and policy center representatives indicated the application would be a strong candidate.
The Select Board voted to authorize the town manager to proceed with the application and to use available surplus for the town portion if needed (voice vote recorded as 5‑0). Shannon will submit the application and, if awarded, the intern is expected to start in late May.
