American Fidelity outlines supplemental benefits; staff notes prior billing error city absorbed

Landon Graves, account manager for American Fidelity assigned to the city of Brookshire, summarized the supplemental insurance products the company provides and discussed a prior billing and reconciliation issue that affected employee payroll deductions.

"I'm the account manager for the city of Brookshire uh with American Fidelity," Graves told the council. He described employer-funded programs including a flexible spending account and partial disability coverage; he also reviewed voluntary products such as term life and critical-illness plans.

Graves said training and implementation were provided but staff had not applied reconciliations correctly under a prior administration, producing what he characterized as an estimated city overpayment of roughly $43,000. Council and the vendor clarified that the city intended not to pursue reclaiming the overpaid amounts from employees: "which we are not going to go back to the employees get that money back. So it's essentially a city," the presenter said.

Finance staff (Miss Watts) and HR (Miss Connor) confirmed the issue was identified, partially reconciled, and corrected in payroll going forward; the vendor said on-site demonstrations were provided to staff as part of remediation. The council did not adopt policy changes at the meeting, but members asked staff to continue reconciliation work and to include any budget or payroll implications in upcoming budget discussions.
