Brookshire entrepreneur asks council to back international badminton event tied to LA 2028 qualification

Sep Gupta, owner of Arise Sports Complex, asked the Brookshire City Council on March 5 for municipal support and promotion for an October international badminton tournament at his facility. "This tournament is part of LA 2028 Olympics," Gupta told the council, describing a five-day event he expects will draw more than 300 athletes and 400–600 daily spectators.
Gupta said the club has 14 badminton courts and training facilities and has applied for tournament sanctioning through USA Badminton and regional federations. He asked the city for an official endorsement and host-city designation, police and traffic coordination, assistance with shuttle logistics from the airport, promotional help through the community calendar and introductions to local businesses for sponsorship. "We will be looking for support… police security coordination… promotion of course website community calendar," he said.
Council members raised traffic and parking concerns given limited on-site stalls; Gupta said event planners will negotiate weekend parking with nearby businesses, and he and staff noted plans to finalize logistics and safety plans between May and July. Economic-development staff and public-works members later told council they see the event as a potential economic boost that could drive hotel occupancy and local spending during the tournament.
Council took no formal binding action at the meeting but expressed general support and asked staff to work with the applicant and the Economic Development Corporation to refine traffic, security and lodging plans ahead of the summer schedule.
Ending: Staff will coordinate required logistics and bring any requests for funding, formal host agreements or traffic plans to council for action before the event.
