Burnsville — The Burnsville City Council on March 3 unanimously approved the 2026 work plan presented by Economic Development Commission Chair Laura Meyer, endorsing the commission's continued focus on business retention, redevelopment opportunities and community outreach.
"We think that this is a really great opportunity to enhance retention," Meyer said, summarizing results from the city's partnership programs. She highlighted the Open to Business outreach — which the commission reported consulted with 30 businesses and 16 resident business owners in 2025 — and the Grow Minnesota program that visited 26 businesses in 2025 and 150 since 2020.
Meyer told the council the commission reviewed a proposed land‑sale policy amendment tied to the city's economic development strategic framework and received updates on the sustainability dashboard maintained by the city's sustainability office. Commissioner remarks during the meeting emphasized collaboration with the Burnsville Chamber of Commerce and other stakeholders to support retention and redevelopment.
After the presentation, the council moved, seconded and approved the EDC work plan by voice vote. The mayor asked council members to extend thanks to the commission for its service.
This agenda item was procedural and no formal budget or ordinance change was acted on at the meeting; the approved work plan will guide the commission and staff coordination for the coming year.
