The DeSoto Parish Police Jury authorized placement of an electronic tourism sign at the corner of Independence Avenue and Highway 171 during the administrative committee meeting.
A presenter told jurors the DeSoto Parish Tourism Commission will fund the sign and asked only for approval of the location and electrical plan; she said the sign will advertise events across the parish rather than solely the 4‑H barn and described two display options and electrical tie‑in choices. She noted the tourism funds contributing to the project are designated enterprise overage from the parish’s 4% tax rebate and must be spent by June 30.
Jurors moved and seconded the item and voted to authorize the location. The presenter said she would maintain the sign’s content, while the jury would cover the electrical tie‑in cost if the sign ties into the 4‑H barn power. She also said permit fees would not be charged by the police jury and provided cost and specifications information in the meeting packet.
The authorization was procedural: contract and final vendor selection remain subject to procurement rules and staff review.
