Webb Corp asks DeSoto Parish for $25,000–$30,000 to stabilize Pelican All Saints community campus

La Maria Scott, president of Webb Corp Inc., asked the DeSoto Parish Police Jury during public comment for emergency stabilization funding to repair and reopen the Pelican All Saints Community Campus, a former school the nonprofit recently acquired.

Scott told jurors the facility has sustained vandalism and ‘‘ventilation and deferred maintenance’’ predating Webb Corp’s stewardship and said the group initially requested $50,000 but would accept between $25,000 and $30,000 to cover insurance binding, outstanding Cleco utility balances and restroom restoration so the building can be made available as a cooling and warming station.

The appeal came during the administrative committee meeting; Scott said Webb Corp is a 501(c)(3) established in 2013 and reactivated in 2024 after acquiring the property. She said the campus is intended as a community resource hub serving seven nearby communities and that documentation and cost estimates were provided to the jury for review.

Jurors did not take an immediate vote on a funding allocation during the meeting. Chair Burrell moved on to the next agenda items after Scott finished her public remarks. The request remains a public‑comment item; Webb Corp representatives said they are willing to accept a reduced emergency allocation to address immediate safety and utility concerns.

If the jury decides to fund repairs, Scott said the priorities are binding insurance coverage, restoring ventilation and bringing utility accounts current to make the campus usable for public events and sheltering during extreme heat or cold. The jury did not adopt a funding motion at the meeting; staff were asked to retain the documentation Webb Corp provided for future consideration.
