The Planning Commission voted 5-0 to grant an open-ended continuance to an applicant representing the Mantika Sportsman's Club after the applicant said key materials and witnesses were not available in time for tonight's hearing.
John Swan, president of Mantika Sportsman's Club, told the commission the Office of Education's expert report was "only made available Friday," that the club's legal counsel needed time to review the report, and that their expert witness, Gene Weisenand, had undergone surgery Monday and could not attend. Swan asked the commission to delay the item until counsel and experts could be present and until the commission had a full five-member panel.
Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to continue the item; the chair announced the motion passed 5-0. The chair named Commissioners Sanggha, Tui Toubuki, Rhodess, Milis and Rouseller as voting yes.
Earlier in the meeting the commission moved to accept minutes from previously listed hearings (read aloud during the meeting as "418 2024, 52 2024, 103 2024, and 1016 2024") and approved them as presented.
In other business Director Jennifer Jolly thanked Commissioner Tui Toubuki for his service, noting his different perspective and professionalism, and said Supervisor Gardea is seeking a replacement who will require board approval. Commissioners briefly polled availability for an upcoming meeting on the 19th and discussed a possible April 16 meeting that would include two related items; staff said they would confirm whether applicants want to proceed if the commission has only four members present.
The chair adjourned the meeting.
