Citrus College presents dual-enrollment opportunities to Monrovia Unified; 86 Monrovia students enrolled this fall

Representatives from Citrus College — Superintendent-President Greg Schultz and trustee Maryann Lutz — presented an overview of the college's programs and partnership with Monrovia Unified at the Nov. 13 board meeting.
Dr. Schultz said Citrus is serving more than 11,000 students this fall and highlighted the college’s Promise program, which allows qualifying first-time college students to attend two years tuition free. "A first-time college student can attend two years for free," he said, noting that the program helps students avoid debt and supports transfer pathways.
Citrus officials reported that in the 2023–24 academic year the dual-enrollment partnership produced 17 sections and 42 student enrollments. For this fall they said 86 current Citrus students are high school students from Monrovia Unified; in addition, 423 Citrus students are Monrovia residents.
Board members thanked Citrus representatives and asked about satellite offerings and transportation; Citrus said it would explore community-based class delivery and pointed to existing transportation supports such as a Go Pass for students that provides local bus access.
The presentation underscored the pathway idea: dual enrollment can accelerate progress toward an associate degree and reduce college costs for Monrovia families. Citrus provided brochures and offered to collaborate further on expanding dual-enrollment and adult-education programming.
