Scituate council approves routine hires, contracts and grants; enters closed session on Teamsters negotiations

The council also authorized the town to post a request for proposals for pavement preservation and approved an extension of the 2026 paving contract with Paciaak Asheville LLC at the current bid prices; councilors briefly asked whether stormwater basins would be repaired as part of the work and were told such repairs are typically included. The council approved up to $11,000 from Potterville Fire Department capital funds to purchase a fire skid unit.
Cheryl Kingma, president of the Garden Club, asked for permission to serve wine at the club’s May 19 community-house event and said the organization would obtain a special-event insurance rider; the council approved the request. The Rotary Club was authorized to use the North Scituate Elementary School parking lot and gazebo for the Scituate Farmers Market opening May 9.
Councilors authorized the council president and town solicitor to sign grant award and subrecipient documents with the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority concerning community vans that were previously authorized in June 2025.
At the meeting’s close, the council voted to convene a closed executive session under Rhode Island law to discuss collective bargaining with Teamsters Local 251 concerning a new agreement beginning July 1, 2025; invited attendees included Wyatt, Peg, Ted, Karen and highway director Steve. The council returned to open session, reported no motions or votes took place in executive session, and adjourned.
