Wakulla County authorized staff to submit two community-project funding applications to Congressman Dunn's office: a $3 million request for a fire training tower and EVOC course at the regional training center, and a $2.5 million request to support construction of a new fire-rescue facility (Wakulla Station) north of the current area.
County administration said the opportunities were offered by the congressman's office on short notice; staff developed the two project proposals and sought the board's concurrence to submit them. "The funding request, the first one is for a fire training tower and an EVOC course at the new regional training center where the total funding requesting is $3 million. The second project is a funding request to support the construction of a new fire rescue facility in Wakulla Station. The total funding request is $2.5 million," staff said.
The board moved and unanimously approved submission of the applications. Staff noted that the applications required no match language in the materials presented and that, if selected, the projects would return to the board for formal acceptance and any required local approvals or matching commitments.
Officials described the projects as intended to expand local firefighter training capacity and to improve emergency response coverage by adding a geographically positioned station to serve more citizens and businesses more efficiently.
