Knox County Commission approves hangar lease changes, reappointments and assistant patrol supervisor job

At its Nov. 12 meeting the Knox County Commission unanimously approved the reappointments of two members to the Board of Assessment Review, authorized three airport hangar lease actions (including a termination and two assignments) and approved a new assistant patrol supervisor job description.
The Knox County Commission voted unanimously on Nov. 12 to approve a set of routine and administrative items including two reappointments to the Knox County Board of Assessment Review, several airport hangar lease actions and a new job description for an assistant patrol supervisor.
County staff member Wendy said the two candidates for reappointment “started back in 2010” and are original members of the Board of Assessment Review; both asked to continue serving and the commission approved the reappointments of Martin Kates and Lauren Hall. The consent items that included the reappointments passed on a single voice vote of three in favor, none opposed.
The commission also authorized a lease termination for hangar number 58 with Dr. Hans after the airport manager explained the lot does not yet have a physical hangar and the planned builder, identified in staff remarks as Dr. Tubler, no longer needs the space because related business deals did not materialize. Commissioners discussed size limits for hangars and the types of aircraft permitted; the termination passed 3-0.
Two lease assignments also passed. The commission approved transferring the lease for hangar 46 from Peter Smith to Ian Lucier after staff said Smith had sold the hangar and Lucier is prepared to assume the lease. A second assignment transferred the lease for hangar 24 from Weston Ames to LLO Bosco and Bridget Binger; staff noted Ames had inherited that lease from his father. Both assignments were approved by unanimous vote.
Separately, the commission approved a draft job description to create an assistant patrol supervisor position, which county staff described as a permanent step-up role for deputies that would retain patrol duties while adding supervisory authority. Staff cautioned the move could require a side agreement with the local union because this is a non-opener year, but said local union leadership indicated willingness to discuss implementation. The job description approval carried on a 3-0 vote.
All actions above were routine approvals taken during the meeting’s business agenda and were recorded as unanimous votes unless otherwise noted. The commission recessed for an executive session later in the meeting and returned to approve the remaining items before adjourning.
