Board reviews capital requests: field-painting robot, vehicle replacements and facility repairs

Jason (facilities staff) and Michelle (joining via Zoom) described a proposed field-painting robot that could automate athletic-field line painting. Jason said purchase price estimates were about $70,000 outright or roughly $11,000 per year under a three-year lease that includes software updates and repair support; he said grounds staff had seen positive demos and that leasing could reduce downtime and repair logistics.
Staff also identified replacement needs for aging district vans (three 2012 vans in the fleet), tuckpointing and exterior water-barrier work at the high school and intermediate school, and resurfacing for the north five tennis courts where cracking is extensive. Jason outlined additional projects on the LTFM list: pack-stage repairs, freezer floor/vapor-barrier mitigation at the middle school, multiple fire-door replacements and scheduled gym-floor refinishing (the middle school floor was highlighted as a priority because of age and visible wear).
Michelle and Jason said many estimates remain preliminary (plug numbers) and that final sequencing will be aligned with budget availability and MDE approvals for storage/cooler projects. Board members asked about leasing versus purchase tradeoffs and about keeping a backup chrome (field layout tool) if the robot is leased.
No capital purchases were approved at the meeting; the presentation informed the board's upcoming budget discussions.
