Trumbull tourism and historical society outline plans for Ohio 250 events and trails

Representatives from the Trumbull County Historical Society and Trumbull County Tourism told commissioners about local planning tied to the statewide Ohio 250 commemoration.

Julie Green and Beth Carmichel described partnerships that have formed over the last year, the county’s submission to be an Ohio 250 community, and a slate of projects including a traveling exhibit, school art programming, themed trails (such as an aviation trail that already accepted the Ernie Hall Museum and the Packer Museum), and a passport program for visitors. They also discussed launching a creativity trail and tying site openings to state marketing requirements (sites must be regularly open to visitors).

The presenters asked the commissioners to designate a point person to join the governor’s Council on 250 and noted modest grant opportunities for community projects, as well as the possibility of using existing events such as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ July 4 celebration as a host for larger county activities in 2026.

"We have been communicating out of [our office]... and as of today Braceville Township is officially an Ohio 250 Community," Julie Green said, noting partner communities and the countywide planning that has begun.

Commissioners were supportive and asked for follow‑up on funding requests and event logistics; staff said most project work can proceed at a modest cost and that more firm requests would come later.
