Council asked to consider joining county letter over CDOT nominee conflict concern

Near the end of the March 2 study session, Council member Condo asked whether Northglenn should join other north‑metro jurisdictions in opposing a governor’s appointment to Colorado Department of Transportation District 4 due to a potential conflict between the nominee’s nonprofit role and the district seat.

Condo said a nominee who serves as executive director of a national or regional nonprofit involved in transportation policy had made comments that some local leaders view as inconsistent with supporting highway expansion in the north metro area. "It seems to make it...a concern that it's something that is worth highlighting and perhaps recommending that another person that is a little bit more removed should be appointed into that seat," Condo said.

Staff said Adams County had drafted a letter to the governor's office opposing the nomination and would circulate the draft to council. Mayor Prom and other members noted the request is time‑sensitive: staff asked council members to review the draft and email Communications staff (Heather) if they want Northglenn to sign a similar letter. No formal vote was taken during the meeting; staff requested five council members' agreement to proceed with a city letter.

What’s next: The draft Adams County letter will be circulated to Northglenn council members for review. Council members who support a local letter were asked to notify staff by email so staff can prepare a city response for a possible timely submittal to the Senate confirmation process.
