The Hinsdale Board of Trustees approved two separate second-reading items: ordering a new ambulance to secure production capacity and waiving construction start-time restrictions for the Hinsdale Public Library’s interior renovation.
The board approved purchase of a Braun Select XLI ambulance with a power cot and load system from North Central Emergency Vehicles of Plainfield, Ill., in an amount not to exceed $498,664. Staff said extended manufacturing lead times (three to four years) required ordering in 2026 to lock pricing and production; delivery is anticipated in 2029 or 2030. Staff also said the quoted cost exceeds the current CIP budget and that they will pursue grant funding to offset the expense.
Separately, the board waived the first reading and approved a resolution under section 9-12-2 of the Hinsdale Village Code to allow the Hinsdale Public Library to commence weekday construction activities at 6:00 a.m. The library’s interior work includes expanded story-time space, a widened stairwell, new flooring and lighting, an accessible main desk, a teen room and two new study rooms; staff said early starts would reduce pedestrian conflicts and shorten the construction timeline.
Both items passed by roll call with aye votes recorded; staff and trustees said they would monitor timelines and funding options as the projects move forward.
