Teachers report delayed 403(b)/457 deposits and retroactive checks; board seeks follow‑up

During public comment at the Feb. 25 Monrovia Unified School District board meeting, certificated staff raised persistent payroll problems and asked for firm timelines for fixes.
Stephanie Sparks, who identified herself as representing district certificated employees and the union, provided a sequence of specific deductions and deposit dates for her 403(b) and 457 retirement contributions, showing gaps of several weeks to months between paycheck deduction and receipt by the vendor. She also said some employees were charged for insurance coverage they did not have and that American Fidelity supplemental insurance issues remain partially unresolved.
Superintendent Dr. Hart Rous reported that retroactive salary checks tied to the 2024‑25 negotiated raise had been delivered or mailed as of Feb. 24 for the cohort still outstanding and that the district is working with MTA and an outside payroll consultant to identify and correct incorrect paycheck deductions. He said additional small corrections tied to secondary "six‑fifths" periods may follow and that the district expects to finalize those adjustments in the coming weeks.
Board members asked for follow‑up once all issues are resolved and for a meeting between business services and union representatives to verify remaining calculations. The superintendent and staff committed to provide timely updates to the board and the union.
