Superintendent Dr. Hart Rous opened the discussion and introduced the presentation, which was led by the district’s LCAP lead, Dr. Zamaripa, and Director of Educational Services Scott Moses. The presenters said midyear diagnostics show subgroup growth in English language arts and mathematics for African‑American students, English learners and unhoused students; they also reported improved AP pass rates and a December 31 snapshot of LCAP‑tied expenditures.
Board Vice President Lockerby and other trustees focused their questions on the district’s assessment architecture. Lockerby said the board had not been clearly apprised that the district shifted secondary benchmarks this year and asked for the rationale, a transition plan and evidence that the new tool will remain comparable to prior assessments for longitudinal reporting.
Dr. Zamaripa acknowledged the change and said the district selected the secondary diagnostic to provide more age‑appropriate benchmarks and to support teachers with intervention and lesson planning tools. Scott Moses described how site leaders are using benchmark results to guide interventions and noted that some midyear measures remain "in progress" until end‑of‑year data are available.
Trustees requested a demonstration of the secondary diagnostic and a formal timeline for how the district will ensure comparability with state assessments and prior baselines. The board asked staff to reinstate structured site visits or a public study session where trustees can review site‑level SARC/SARCs and assessment fidelity with principals and teachers.
The district will provide the requested demonstration and a proposed schedule for data review and site visits ahead of full LCAP deliberations later this year.
