Planning board approves affidavit approach, schedules sitewalk for Sig Sauer range reconfiguration

Colin Murphy, representing Sig Sauer, told the Brentwood Planning Board the company’s application reconfigures existing outdoor firing ranges rather than builds new structures, describing it as “low in order of magnitude” and “just a repositioning of ranges.” He said the proposal avoids excavation, timber removal and other ground disturbance and that the areas proposed for the new ranges are already gravelled and have proper drainage.
Town staff and the applicant discussed how to document the change in the land records. Glenn (town staff) said the board can avoid requiring a full new survey by recording a one-page affidavit that references and is attached to an existing recorded site plan. Glenn explained the affidavit would note the amended layout and the recording details so anyone examining the site plan in the registry will also see the update.
Bruce moved that Mr. Greenwood prepare and record the affidavit at the registry of deeds and attach it to the existing site plan; the motion, as read into the record, was moved by Bruce and seconded by Doug and passed on a roll-call vote of 7–0. The board also voted to schedule a sitewalk at the Sig Sauer property for Friday the 13th at 9:00 a.m. so members can see the layout in the field.
The public-hearing portion of the application was continued to a date certain at the board’s next regularly scheduled meeting (noted during the meeting as March 19 at 7 p.m.) so staff can record the affidavit and members can consider the sitewalk findings. The board’s decision on the affidavit was procedural only and did not represent approval of the site plan; the board made clear that final approval will follow the completion of the sitewalk and any additional required submissions.
Next steps: Mr. Greenwood will prepare the affidavit for recording; the board will conduct the sitewalk on the agreed date and reconvene the matter on the date-certain continuance to take further action.
