Board members settled several points that shaped the final package: the conservation land acquisition deposit was cut from $250,000 to $100,000; the parks and recreation field repair request of $200,000 will be paid from a reserve (the board recommended no repayment requirement); and the board set aside $50,000 this year toward a proposed fire-department radio upgrade rather than fully funding the original $177,000 request.
The package reflects an attempt to balance long-term plans and immediate needs. Several selectboard members urged a return to multi-year funding plans—putting modest amounts aside annually—so large capital needs do not arrive as single big requests. "We used to be very good about putting money away and then in the future saying, 'now we have the money,'" one member said during the CIP discussion.
Town staff explained that many reserve expenditures still require subsequent approvals or public hearings before funds are spent. The board voted on the consolidated totals after staff recalculated line items and confirmed where funds would come from (taxation, reserve, or grant matches). The board scheduled a reconciliation session with the selectboard for early April to finalize remaining warrant language and timing.
