The North Platte City Council on March 3 voted to forgive two economic‑development loans tied to Sustainable Beef after staff said the company had met its performance targets and the city’s auditors verified payroll reports.
Gary explained the Quality Growth Fund program supports performance‑based loans approved by voters and city committees, and he said Sustainable Beef had exceeded the employment and investment thresholds the city set. Don reported he contacted the city’s auditors and that they reviewed payroll reports submitted by Sustainable Beef and provided a verification letter confirming the reported numbers.
Councilmembers praised the project for its local economic effects. Ed told the council the facility has driven substantial investment in North Platte—he characterized the new facility investment as roughly a half‑billion dollars—and said the company’s payroll and related activity have helped local retail, lodging revenues and valuation growth.
The council adopted a resolution accepting Sustainable Beef’s verification of its payroll requirement, declaring its Quality Growth Fund obligation forgiven and cancelling the related promissory note. The council subsequently adopted a separate resolution forgiving Sustainable Beef’s Northwestern Energy Economic Development Fund loan; staff said that action completes the related incentive package the city approved previously.
Both actions were presented as fulfillment of the previously negotiated incentive agreements; staff said the approvals follow committee recommendations and prior council approval of the loan structures.
