Commission approves recovery‑residence and future‑land‑use ordinances; routine contracts and proclamations pass

The Sunny Isles Beach City Commission approved two major ordinances and a package of administrative actions at its Jan. 15 meeting.
On second reading the commission unanimously adopted an ordinance implementing state requirements for certified recovery residences and establishing a process for reasonable‑accommodation requests. Staff said the ordinance conforms the city’s land‑development regulations to changes in Florida law.
Also on second reading, the commission unanimously adopted a text amendment to the city’s future land‑use element. Staff said the package updates statutory references, adds missing definitions, eliminates redundant policies, revises population projections and establishes upper levels of development for five future‑land‑use categories.
In the consent agenda the commission approved multiple administrative matters including a budget amendment (BA2526‑1) composed largely of fund‑balance and purchase‑order carryovers, contract amendments to professional service agreements (including a sixth renewal with the Corodino Group for planning and zoning services), a construction‑administration agreement for Intercoastal Sports Park and procurement renewals. The commission also approved a community‑aesthetic agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation to replace three welcome signs (city will pay design, installation and maintenance costs) and adopted several proclamations, including International Holocaust Remembrance Day (Jan. 27) and International Women’s Day (March 8).
Votes and formal actions: Ordinance 8A (recovery residences) and Ordinance 8B (future land‑use text amendment) passed on second reading by 5–0 roll calls. Multiple resolutions and contract renewals were approved by voice votes as part of the consent agenda.
