Stephens County approves airport lighting contract, landfill study, school fields MOU and several vendor quotes

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners approved a series of procurement and partnership items at the meeting, including an airfield lighting contract, a development agreement for potential landfill lighting/solar design, an MOU with the Stephens County school system on soccer‑field improvements, and contract awards for facilities work.

Staff said funds for the airport lighting had been provided previously to the TCO Stevens County Airport Authority and recommended executing the contract. The board approved entering a project development agreement with GRP Wegman that will produce a task order to outline lighting options and cost estimates for the county landfill; staff emphasized the task order does not obligate the county to install solar now but would inform future decisions.

On parks and recreation, staff presented a memorandum of understanding with the school system for a grant to update soccer fields between the middle and high schools; no county matching funds were required and the county would have secondary use of fields when the school system is not using them. Recreation director Chris Rainy attended to answer questions.

The board also approved vendor quotes for new flooring at 911/EMA, landscaping for a new parking lot and ceiling work at the historic courthouse. Staff recommended the lower flooring quote and requested $5,000 from contingencies to cover increased costs; the board approved the recommendation.
