Bear River council hears public-works, sewer, fire and economic-development updates; schedules major road work

At its May 14 meeting the Bear River Town Council received multiple operational reports and community announcements.
Public works said crews will begin touch-up work on roads immediately, start graveling next week and conduct a major road project the first week of June. Sewer and water staff described an emergency repair to an aging water line that took two days to complete; they said they will replace the affected line with assistance from the joint-power board. A councilor praised the crew’s response to the break.
The fire department announced a community open house on June 8 at Fire Hall Three, including demonstrations, an obstacle course for children and food for attendees. Economic development staff reported they contracted an engineering firm to draw plans for a submitted project and expect more details within four weeks. A newly formed workforce development committee is working with the state and local schools on training programs for process operators, electricians and welders to address local hiring needs.
Council also voted to proceed with a curb-and-gutter grant project and to reopen discussion on that grant. Staff and councilors encouraged public engagement on projects and reminded residents that candidate packets are available for upcoming municipal elections.
The meeting closed after reminders about candidate packets and a request to publish the firearm-ordinance drafts in the town newsletter and on the website.
