Residents press Bear River council on dog enforcement, road safety and a rezoning request

Residents used the floor portion of the July 9 Bear River Town Council meeting to press the council on enforcement of existing ordinances and to raise public-safety concerns.
Several residents asked about abandoned houses in town and pressed officials on enforcement. Multiple people raised concerns about loose or aggressive dogs. A town staff member told the meeting that the council had requested a fine/bond schedule and that the schedule is not yet finalized; once the schedule is in place, repeat offenses will be enforced and may result in citations. The staff member said single incidents generally do not result in a citation without sufficient identification of the animal and owner, and advised residents to report incidents to town hall with photos where possible.
Residents also urged the council to address speed limits after observing racing and excessive speeding on local roads. Council members suggested that residents note license plate numbers and report incidents to the sheriff’s office for enforcement because the town lacks speed-measuring equipment to make citations on its own.
In planning news, Planning and Zoning reported no new building permits and asked staff to prepare an ordinance for the next meeting to consider a rezoning application by Crystal Weaver for property at 50 App Drive, from SR1 (Suburban Ranch Residential) to Industrial; that rezoning ordinance will be placed on the next agenda for first reading.
