The City of Greenacres ordered a local school to obtain a required business tax receipt within 30 days or face daily fines.
Michael McGee, a code compliance officer, presented case 6-25-11299 concerning 3812 Jog Road, identifying the owner as Church in the Palms, Inc., and the tenant as Palm Beach Christian Preparatory. McGee said the property was cited July 3, 2025, for violating section 8-47 (business tax receipt required) and submitted proof of posting, ownership and business registrations.
The respondent was not present at the hearing; McGee said the respondent had asked for 30 days because she was awaiting a certificate-of-occupancy change needed to apply for the business tax receipt. "She's just asking for an additional 30 days," McGee said. The magistrate entered the city's exhibit into the record and found a violation of section 8-47.
Magistrate AMD Barnard ordered the respondent to comply on or before Aug. 15, 2025, and set a penalty of $100 per day for each day the violation continues after that date. Barnard noted the school "really technically needs to have that before then" given an August school start date discussed in the hearing, and emphasized that service and posting met notice requirements.
The magistrate's order requires the respondent to secure the appropriate occupancy classification and then apply for the business tax receipt; no appeal or other enforcement action was recorded at the hearing. The case was closed on the record and the hearing proceeded to other items.
