Jenna Woods, Lancaster County’s marketing and communications director, presented the county’s October community update, highlighting a series of events and reminders for residents.
Woods said National Night Out on Oct. 7 featured county and city vendors along Kataba Street behind the Lancaster County Courthouse and noted attractions including the Lancaster County Corner’s Office mounted response team and the Parks and Recreation Knocker Ball Pit. Lancaster County Economic Development held its second annual Industry Spotlight social at Laurel Haven Estate to celebrate Manufacturing Week; MUSC Lancaster CEO Scott Broom delivered the keynote and discussed the Indian Land Medical Center that began construction in September and broader local health-care developments.
The county’s Civics 101 sessions featured Lancaster County department directors and culminated in a graduation for the class of 2025 on Oct. 23, Woods said. Parks and Recreation hosted a Spooktacular on Oct. 25 at the Buford Recreation Center, which included costume contests and a pumpkin pie-eating contest for youth.
Woods reminded listeners that Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, with municipal contests in the city of Lancaster and towns including Kershaw, Vanwack and Peace Springs, and a countywide transportation sales tax referendum on the ballot. She also noted county offices will be closed for Veterans Day on Nov. 11 and promoted the Veterans Day parade downtown on Saturday, Nov. 8.
