Committee hears attendance, behavior and SOL trends; division to use eduCLIMBER for longitudinal tracking

Mrs. Muldowney and Dr. Myers presented end‑of‑year elementary and secondary data to the Instruction Committee, calling attention to attendance, behavior and SOL outcomes.
Key points included a drop in divisionwide elementary chronic absenteeism from 17.5% to 15.5% in the fourth quarter; a concentration of behavior incidents among fifth graders transitioning to middle school and higher incident rates among economically disadvantaged students (326 incidents vs. 190 in Q4). Staff emphasized the need to standardize referral and coding practices across schools to ensure accurate, comparable data and to analyze repeat‑offender patterns as part of PBIS implementation.
On achievement, staff identified pockets of substantial reading and math growth at specific schools and grade levels: Apple Pie Ridge fourth‑grade reading (+15.14%), Gainesboro (+14.6%), Greenwood Mill third grade (+11.9%), and notable math gains at Gainesboro and Millbrook (e.g., Gainesboro pass rate increase from 42% to 73%). Dr. Myers noted shifts in SOL standards and test composition (including seventh‑grade reporting changes) complicate year‑to‑year comparisons, and staff committed to seeking crosswalks from VDOE.
To support longitudinal monitoring and coordinated interventions, the division is implementing eduCLIMBER. Crystal Nicole described eduCLIMBER as a centralized platform that will integrate SOLs, attendance, behavior, VKRP, iReady and other diagnostics to enable data walls, intervention tracking and equity analyses. Onboarding began in June with IT and an implementation coach and will follow a phased rollout.
What happens next: staff will calibrate referral coding across schools, use eduCLIMBER to monitor progress, and report quarterly through division improvement plans and CESIP processes.
