Historical Park board previews fall events, seeks wreath donations and hears administrative move to Economic Development

Staff reviewed upcoming events and volunteer needs: Bluegrass (Oct. 18–19), BR Arts Live (Oct. 20), Hanson Houses/community trick-or-treat (Oct. 24), Day of the Dead (Nov. 1, 6:30–9:30 p.m.), fall family photo shoots and Victorian fencing demonstrations (Nov. 10), and a Christmas Tea that sold out quickly. Volunteer sign-ups and sponsorship forms (including $100 altar sponsorships for Day of the Dead) were circulated.
Separately, the board discussed Wreaths Across America registration. The Park is registered for the program and organizers expect wreath delivery for a Dec. 14 ceremony. Transcript discussion noted the park has 117 veteran graves and organizers expressed a goal to place a wreath at every grave; fundraising links and a Friends of the Historical Park Facebook page are being used for donations (transcript phrased fundraising as roughly "$10 is two wreaths"). The board asked members to share the links and help solicit donations.
On administration, staff reported that Historical Park and Venue 1842 will be administratively moved to Economic Development, Planning & Tourism starting Oct. 1 to consolidate hotel/motel (hotel occupancy tax) funded activities, tourism and venue oversight. The board asked for future updates on the master plan and specific restoration items (including vog cabins). Members were reminded the Historical Park board will present an update to City Council at a study session on Nov. 12.
Board members also discussed outreach they have done in the community and raised questions about the master plan and gold/steps awards status. No formal decisions about programming changes or budgets were made; most items were informational and will return for follow-up in future meetings.
