Event Center manager: November grand opening targeted; bookings growing but operations constrained by flood-zone rules

Lynette Hill, Event Center manager, told the Farmers Branch Historical Park Board on Sept. 26 that the venue is receiving frequent rental inquiries, staff are finishing punch-list work and a grand-opening celebration is being targeted for November pending City Council availability.
"We had about 35 people" attend the Friends of the Historical Park membership meeting that included a tour, Hill said, and the venue "is starting to book" for events. Board discussion referenced roughly "20 and six pending" bookings; staff said they are coordinating available dates to avoid conflicts with already-booked events.
Hill said the venue does not have a full commercial stove and that the project team did not install a grease trap because the building sits in a flood zone. She described the space as a prep kitchen with refrigeration and warming equipment but no stove or grills.
On service rules, Hill said some restrictions apply: "There are no tequila shots allowed," and bartending/service practices are constrained by licensing and state rules, meaning a licensed bartender must serve individual drinks rather than distributing trays. Board members noted that TABC and other state-level regulations affect how alcohol can be served, which is outside local control.
Members also raised acoustics and parking. Hill said staff have received comments about echo and that acoustical items are on the punch list; parking for weddings and larger events has been managed with shuttle golf carts to nearby lots while renovation work continues.
Hill said she would confirm the grand-opening date after coordinating with the Masons and the City Council calendar and would notify board members when the date is finalized.
